ABSTRAC: In January 1856, a group of wealthy residents of Calamocha joined forces to create what is possibly the first commercial corporation in the province of Teruel and one of the first in Aragon. Their main objective was to build a modern textile spinning industry that would allow the economic and social development of this town, taking advantage of the technological renewal that was being consolidated in Cataluña and other areas of Spain in those decades. This group of local investors, very aware of the redemptive facet of the new company (daring and with a great future, as indicated by its name), were seduced by the ideas of Juan Guerin and, later, the Cunill brothers, astute foreign technicians who were searching all over Spain for some capital to start up their ambitious industrial projects, regardless of where they came from. The company failed within a few years, due to the growing distrust of the local capitalist partners towards the Cunill brothers. Despite the heavy initial investment, the purchase of the
premises and the acquisition of the main machines, the spinning mill could not be put into operation. In 1861 the dissolution of the company was decided.
